RON DAVIS is a pianist in the great solo tradition. His music is rooted in the swing and post-bop idioms.

Active on the Toronto jazz scene, Ron Davis has played at the leading clubs, events and festivals, hosted a popular weekly jam session for many years, and accompanied some of Canada’s top jazz talent.

The Ron Davis Trio‑‑destined for longevity and well-deserved plaudits” (Jazz Canadiana) ‑–is a brilliantly swinging piano/ bass/ drum unit. In 2004, the Trio toured Japan, playing to enthusiastic audiences in seven cities. Ron and Trio are returning to Japan in late 2005, as well as making their first foray into Indonesia.

Shimmering Rhythm, Ron Davis’s latest cd, is an innovative blend of jazz, classical, klezmer and world influences, cello, viola, and clarinets. It is already winning international acclaim: “A tour de force ten times over!”‑ (All About Jazz), “An outstanding, fresh and life affirming piece of work, and one of the most enjoyable jazz releases of 2005”‑ Zeitgeist (Scotland).

Mungle Music, Ron’s 2004 release, was called “A brilliant album!” (The Live Music Report), and named One of the best cds of 2004 by CBC Radio and Coda Magazine. The trio’s 2003 effort, So Much, with singer Lori Cullen, was nominated Jazz Recording of the Year for the Canadian Independent Music Awards. Cdbaby.com chose So Much as a “jaw dropping” front page choice.

Ron began his career as a professional musician in the 1970’s. He studied with the late Darwyn Aitken‑‑ a student of classical great David Saperton and jazz legend Oscar Peterson –and at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Ron has had other lives. He was a lawyer, and holds a PhD in French linguistics from the University of Toronto, where he was an Assistant Professor.
